چکیده

A spectral method is developed for the direct solution of linear ordinary differential equations with variable coefficients. The method leads to matrices which are almost banded, and a numerical solver is presented that takes O(m2n) operations, where m is the number of Chebyshev points needed to resolve the coefficients of the differential operator and n is the number of Chebyshev coefficients needed to resolve the solution to the differential equation. We prove stability of the method by relating it to a diagonally preconditioned system which has a bounded condition number, in a suitable norm. For Dirichlet boundary conditions, this implies stability in the standard 2norm. An adaptive QR factorization is developed to efficiently solve the resulting linear system and automatically choose the optimal number of Chebyshev coefficients needed to represent the solution. The resulting algorithm can efficiently and reliably solve for solutions that require as many as a million unknowns.

Comparing Geostatistical Seismic Inversion Based on Spectral Simulation with Deterministic Inversion: A Case Study

Seismic inversion is a method that extracts acoustic impedance data from the seismic traces. Source wavelets are band-limited, and thus seismic traces do not contain low and high frequency information. Therefore, there is a serious problem when the deterministic seismic inversion is applied to real data and the result of deterministic inversion is smooth. Low frequency component is obtained fro...

A Fast Immersed Boundary Fourier Pseudo-spectral Method for Simulation of the Incompressible Flows

Abstract   The present paper is devoted to implementation of the immersed boundary technique into the Fourier pseudo-spectral solution of the vorticity-velocity formulation of the two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The immersed boundary conditions are implemented via direct modification of the convection and diffusion terms, and therefore, in contrast to some other similar ...

Fast Ewald summation for Stokesian particle suspensions

We present a numerical method for suspensions of spheroids of arbitrary aspect ratio which sediment under gravity. The method is based on a periodized boundary integral formulation using the Stokes double layer potential. The resulting discrete system is solved iteratively using GMRES accelerated by the spectral Ewald (SE) method, which reduces the computational complexity to O(N logN), where N...

Fast Unsupervised Automobile Insurance Fraud Detection Based on Spectral Ranking of Anomalies

Collecting insurance fraud samples is costly and if performed manually is very time consuming. This issue suggests usage of unsupervised models. One of the accurate methods in this regards is Spectral Ranking of Anomalies (SRA) that is shown to work better than other methods for auto insurance fraud detection specifically. However, this approach is not scalable to large samples and is not appro...

ارزیابی طیف‌سنجی مرئی و مادون قرمز نزدیک در برآورد مقادیر فلزات سنگین سرب و نیکل در خاک (مطالعه موردی: اراضی شهر ری)

Reflectance spectroscopy is a fast and safe method to predict soil physicochemical and biological properties in low cost ways. Traditional methods to determine soil properties require spending a lot of time and money so that farmers are generally reluctant to use the results of laboratory measurements in soil and water management. Reflectance spectroscopy in the spectral range of 400-2500 nm (V...
